ABSTRACT

Focusing on the process of plagiarism and publication ethics, this research has tried to bring a new perspective to the problem of the constant repetition of the academy in Turkey in terms of academic dishonesty and plagiarism. The elements of plagiarism and academic dishonesty in postgraduate theses in Turkey, which were obtained from secondary sources such as Murat Eren’s Thesis Scenes from the Back Streets of the Turkish Academy (2012), were analyzed using the qualitative content analysis method. The analyzes and theoretical researches show that various kinds of responses to plagiarism and academic dishonesty in Turkey are insufficient, that such ethical violations damage the work of genuine academics and the image of the academy, thus negatively affecting the expectation and investment of the society from the academy. A set of ethical principles and legal norms regarding the prevention of plagiarism and academic dishonesty are also proposed in the research.

ÖZ

İntihal ve yayın etiği sürecine odaklanan bu araştırma, akademik sahtekârlık ve intihal açısından "kötü durumdaki" akademinin Türkiye’de kendini sürekli tekrarlanması sorunsalına yeni bir bakış açısı getirilmeye çalışılmıştır. Murat Eren’in “Türkiye Akademisinin Arka Sokaklarından Tez Manzaraları (2012)” adlı çalışması gibi ikincil kaynaklardan elde edilen Türkiye’deki lisans üstü tezlerdeki intihal ve akademik sahtekârlık unsurları, nitel çözümleme yöntemi kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Yapılan analizler ve teorik araştırmalar, Türkiye’de intihal ve akademik sahtekârlığa karşı çeşitli türden tepkilerin yetersiz olduğunu, bu türden etik ihlallerin gerçek akademisyenlerin çalışmalarına ve akademinin imajına zarar verdiğini, böylece toplumun akademiden beklentisini ve akademiye yatırımını olumsuz etkilediğini göstermektedir. Araştırmada, intihal ve akademik sahtekârlığın önlenmesine ilişkin bir dizi etik ilke ve hukuki norm da önerilmiştir.
